While trainers and racing offices bemoan the every growing layers of red tape to get a dog on the card – there are some that beat the system.

Sporting Rebel was sold for a bargain £1,300 at Sittingbourne Sales on February 17.

He had completed his qualifying trials in under a fortnight and on Wednesday, just 22 days after his Sittingbourne outing, the Claude Gardiner trained runner completed a 20-1 graded double.

Sales promoter Brian Harrison said: “There were actually two runners that went into the kennel and the other bitch, Watch The Lady, has also won.

“I don’t know where we go from here though. The EU transportation laws could mean an end to greyhound sales.

“As things stand we would have to keep the dogs on the sales premises for 48 hours and the tracks aren’t licenced to do that.

“I am hoping that someone in the GBGB can sort it out or we are in big trouble.”
