Kevin Boon was quick to play down talk of a match between his Farneys Cookie and Roxholme Dream in next Tuesday’s final of the PinPoint Health & Homecare Three Steps To Victory after the pair had won their respective semi-finals in identical times of 28.96 for the 500 metres.

Farneys Cookie overhauled early leader Coolavanny Fish down the back straight and went on to win by two and a half lengths and Boon commented: “I was well chuffed with the run but I don’t want to hear talk of it being a match between us and Roxholme Dream. There are four other runners in the contest that have to be respected and especially Elaine Parker, who has two in the race. Like everyone else I will be hoping for a clean run for we all know what can happen at the first bend in races.”

Roxholme Dream continued to excel on a racecourse that she has also taking a real liking to, the bitch showing early to lead through one, although Elwick Glory got close to her and was only threequarters of a length adrift at the line.

Elaine Parker’s Russanda Brax and Droopys Knox came home in that order in the third semi-final, just a neck separating them in 29.1, and the local handler said: “It is great to have two in the final again, but the trip goes up to 660 metres and while Droopys Knox has winning form over that distance, Russanda Brax has not been further than 500 so is something of an unknown quantity.”
