All interest switched to Limerick this week with the opening round of the Kirby Memorial where Explosive Boy went quickest with a 28.08 run. It was the quickest run since Ballymac Tas (27.97) and Ballymac Syd (28.07 two years ago). It would be hard to be argue that Jaytee Wexford was any less impressive with a stunning 28.57 in the Michael Fortune Memorial Unraced at Enniscorthy.
Clona Skye won the Cork Oaks though Jirano Jet was quicker on a slow track. Dark Devil landed the Kilkenny feature event, the McCalmont Cup. It was impossible to split to outstanding performances at Tralee between sprinter Laughil Jim and 570 winner Ballymac Wisdom who both clocked the fastest times of the year.
