Hove are to introduce their new 500 metre race distance – an amalgamation of the 490 and 515 metre distances – with a special A1 graded race on Tuesday worth £200 to the winner.

Stadium manager Brian Murphy said: “The traps are in position. We will have trials over the new distance on Monday but the first race over the 500 metre course will be an A1 worth £200 (from £150). It is not a one-off, all future A1s will carry the same money. If all goes to plan, it should set up a new track record that might take a few races to challenge it.”

Hove’s recently expanded restaurant will be tested to capacity with three of the four Saturdays leading up to Christmas already booked out. As for Boxing Day. . .

Murphy said: “We have extended the restaurant from 300 to 460. That is already sold out with 150 enquiries standing by as reserve. It promises to be a special meeting with lots going on for the whole family including a significant raffle (see advert below)”

One further date for the diary – New Years Day. The track will be opening the restaurant for the regular Wednesday lunchtime/afternoon fixture with a ‘family roast’ topping the menu. Bookings currently being taken.

New Racing Manager Daniel Rankin opted to transfer the track’s open race competitions to Saturday evenings with the Coral Greyhound Olympic over the traditional 515m course due to be contested over December Saturdays 14th, 21st and 28th.

Each Saturday meeting until the end of the year is being extended to 14 races to conclude with a post meeting disco.
