Romford emerged as easy winners of their home leg of the first tie of the BAGS/SIS Track Championship, though Sittingbourne would have headed back through the Dartford Tunnel in high spirits.

The hosts made a great start when Toot Hill Wizard and To Tone Liam managed a first and third in the opening leg. (The hosts get two runners in every heat).

There was a similar score in the second heat with Paul Young’s Millstreetrixie and Scarra Lad (Lucas) scoring an aggregate 15 points.

The first win for the visitors came in heat three when Sign Danielle (Spencer Mavrias) picked up a maximum 10 spots for Sittingbourne with locally trained Dubai Jasmine in second.

Wimbledon entry That’s The Dream went to traps as favourite for the 575m fourth heat but it was Martyn Wiley’s Slick Savi who gave the hosts their third win of the meeting.

Romford fielded the 2-1f Dave You Go in the fifth heat but Sittinbourne’s 14-1 outsider Sign Emily saw off Dave’s trackmate El Greco to pick up a maximum.

The fourth home victory duly arrived in the final heat as Paul Young’s Dudley’s Rocket won by an un-BAGSlike 10 lengths in 24.11 for the 400m.

Final scores: 71-Romford, 35-Sittingbourne, 24-Crayford, 22-Hove, 16-Wimbledon.
