GBGB PRESS RELEASE

BRITISH BRED BONUS SERIES

Owners of British bred graders are set for a winter boost as GBGB has today confirmed that each track will be asked to stage an event exclusively for British bred greyhounds on their graded strength, between 26th November and 31st December 2018

‘British Bred Bonus Series’ races, which have been developed by the GBGB Racing Committee and will be funded from money secured by the committee to support British breeding at graded level, will take one of two formats. Tracks will stage either:

  • A competition comprising heats and a final for 12 or 18 British bred graded greyhounds over a particular grade or off handicap starts, or
  • A one-off event for 6 British bred greyhounds over a particular grade if handicap traps are not available and if not enough greyhounds of a particular grade are available to form a 12/18 dog competition.

Winners of Finals and of one-off events will receive £500 and a trophy, 2nd placed greyhounds £100 and other finalists £50, with a further £50 going to the winning trainer. The breeder of the winner of each event will receive £200.

Greyhounds must have been earmarked in Britain, with a British earmark to qualify.

John Marriott, British Breeders’ Forum Chair said: “This additional funding towards British breeding is welcomed by the Forum, and this is a great boost for connections of British bred graded greyhounds. We’ve had a busy schedule of well supported open race competitions throughout the year and this is an opportunity to support and put the focus on British breeding at a more local level.”
