The elimination of ante post favourite Rubys Razzle and the promotion to that position of a dog who finished third in his qualifier, albeit with a loose jacket, were two of the major talking points in Crayford’s Ladbrokes Gold Collar first round.

In fact the top two in the betting were beaten in the same opening heat and are joined in the Collar semi finals by a third Champion Stakes finalist, Stand Alone.

Fastest on the night with a time just three spots off her own FOY was Dean Childs’ Droopys Jester with a 33.46 (+30) run for the 540m.

In fact, of the five bitches still in the event, four won their opening heats with Droopys Fernanda only one spot slower.

Overall, the competition has an inter-track look about it with five runners based at both Yarmouth and Romford and six locals.

Chopchop Steve won the fastest qualifier of the Guys And Dolls with a 23.05 run over the 380m course. Cotton Pants won the other qualifier in 23.15 .

There was only three spots between the two winning ‘Dolls’ with Barnfield Angel rattling up a 23.24 and Cuteen Jess producing a 23.27 run.

A dead heat between Chopchop Hope and Bubbas Bullet will result in a run-off prior to the Dolls semi final draw.

Hazel Kemp’s Slippy Maska went quickest in the Kent Cesarewitch.

The Golden Jacket semi finalist with a 45.29 (714) on her card, stepped up to the 874m with a FOY 56.75 (+50) run while coming from fifth place. The new marathon find actually extended her lead over Ribble Atom on the final circuit.

Samantha West’s Paddyflash took the other qualifier after leading early in 56.91.
