Perry Barr is to stage a gala night on Friday February 27 where the entire card will be backed by Rinus Roofing writes Jason Craddock.

The company are taking over the restaurant and will be sponsoring the whole card including two £500 to the winner one-off opens.

Racing manager Martin Seal said: “Rinus Roofing, who have sponsored here before, are entertaining their clients, suppliers and customers in the restaurant.

“They wanted to make the night special so are putting up trophies for each race and are adding to the prizemoney pot.

“We plan on having around four or five open races, two of which will be £500 one-off’s over 480 and 660 metres.”

Seal reports that the kennel strength at Perry Barr remains fairly strong. He says: “I’ve currently got 319 on the strength and had over 300 every week since September.

“I’ve also marked up a lot of dogs in January, probably over 20, which is unusual for this month as it is usually quite dead.”

Kevins Puma has been the one to beat at the track in recent weeks after completing a hat trick.

Joe Scanlon’s runner landed an A1 on Boxing Day before losing his maiden tag when landing an open in a slick 28.38 in the early part of January. He has since landed another open in 28.50sec.
