Monmore’s new Owners Association Chairman Kieron Dawson has been forced to change meeting dates because he can’t get out of school!

The 29 year old Head of Year at a local comprehensive must rate as one of the youngest association chairmen in the industry, but he reckons to have attended his first greyhound meeting before he was even old enough to attend school.

He has interests in a whole string of greyhounds with Sanda Ralph, most notably Droopys Turin and the Mineola Meercat, but even raised a syndicate of 27 members of teaching staff. He also has three ex-racers at home.

Kieron said: “I took over as chairman from Len Timmins last November though I had been actively involved in the association for a long time before that.

“I was asked to do the job but initially turned it down for various reasons, including the fact that the meetings were held on Thursdays which is a night for parents evenings. I was told I could run the meetings when I like and agreed to take over.

“We have regular meetings when representatives from all kennels are invited to take part and we normally get good attendance. Even our last one immediately before Christmas attracted ten people.

“I love the sport and think owners associations are an important part of it. Although a lot of greyhounds are now trainer-owned, particularly at other tracks, we still have a large number of owners and syndicates and it is important that their views are heard.”
