One comment that was inadvertently left out of an interview two weeks ago was made by trainer Ernie Gaskin. It went: “Droopys Aoife is 13 weeks out of season and can only improve”

The prophesy proved correct as the red jacketed 9-2 chance led from trap to line to beat King Dylan in the Coral Essex Vase Final. Click on result below

The race had been reduced to five runners following the withdrawal of track record holder Sparta Master who was a victim of the 12 hour closure of the M25 motorway due to a collapsed crane.

But nothing should take away from the efforts of the winner. Her 35.08 had only been bettered once in the last five Vase finals (Adageo Bob – 35.05). In his post race interview Gaskin confirmed that Aoife will now be aimed at the Coronation Cup.

For the second and third, their next date is the British Bred Derby Final at Sheffield on Tuesday.
