Arsene Wenger has resigned. Donald Trump has survived an assassination attempt. Wimbledon Stadium has been saved.

All three statements are untrue – at least as far as I am aware – tho two of the three seem more likely than the third. What magnificent irony that fake news is now mainstream news with the boss of Apple the latest to weigh in with warnings of the dangers.

Fake news is not a new phenomenon. In the old days it was called bull$hit. If anyone ever discovers that you can ski on it, I’ve heard enough to stage the next Winter Olympics. Last weekend alone we could have provided enough for the bobsleigh course. It started with a series of phone calls and texts asking if I had heard that Tom Kelly had resigned as GBGB Chairman. But that was just the early warning of the brown avalanche that was about to bury us. There had been EIGHT arrests, at least three GBGB directors were in custody and one at the centre of a £600,000 fraud.

I tried to track down the source of this industrial quantity of slurry and it seems to be produced at the Golden Jacket meeting on Saturday morning. So – what is occurring?

Well the highest grade BS is based on ‘feasible’ events – and we are all aware that City Of London police are carrying out an investigation into GBGB activities. I actually broke the story on this site.

Personally, as previously stated, I have never believed the allegations, but welcome the investigation on two levels. If I am wrong, I will take the abuse, and then call for the maximum penalties for the wrong-doers. If I am right, and there is no case to answer, following a full police investigation, hopefully everyone can finally move on and concentrate on saving the industry.

My information is that the original complaint handed over during the protest of the Board offices was the same dossier sent to GBGB and MPs. GBGB investigated and could find no case to answer. However, a second complaint was received from a former GBGB employee. This possibly relates to an alleged fiddle relating to a track drainage project. The explanation that I received seemed to make perfect sense. Whatever – if there is any truth, it will surely come out during the police investigation. It is worth pointing out tho, that nobody has ever been interviewed by the police – ever!

The Tom Kelly resignation story is more intriguing, though there is a possible explanation. My understanding is that Kelly’s contract is not being renewed when it expires at the end of May. I am anticipating that he and his old side-kick from the ABB – Barrie Faulkner – will choose to exit at similar times.

(In an old Editors Chair I once referred to the pair as ‘the Dark Lords’. Darth Vader was not impressed.)

So it’s not all bad news ?
