“Who do I fancy? I wouldn’t have the faintest idea on who would be favourite.”

Yarmouth racing manager Marcus Westgate has seen every East Anglian Derby final since 1992, but admits he has never seen a tougher decider.

The two odds on favourites were both beaten in the semi finals, and then the draw saw both middle seeds allocated boxes traditionally allocated for wides.

Quickest on the clock was Affane Party, wh0 remembered he came into the competition as a sprinter with a faultess front running display.

The other qualifier saw the Janssens ‘second string’ Seaglass Phantom produce the best performance of his career to date.

Westgate said: “You can genuinely look at this and make a case for every dog in the final. I have never known anything like it. It will be one of the best finals we have ever staged. If I had to decide, Affane Party looks best suited by the draw and has done nothing wrong.”

The final is supported by the ‘Cat 3′ Greene King IPA Sprint “it’s Dave Pruhs’ to lose” and the 659m Derby Purse.

Westgate said: “You would have to say that Barricane Tommy looked very strong and Minnies Highway struggled to get the trip. Beyond that, I think there are a couple in there would would go close if I was convinced they there chasing the hare.”
