Northern Irish racegoers are still awaiting for a date for the return of the Brandywell track in Derry, though work is well advanced.

Spokesman Daniel McLoughlin said: “We have no set date as of yet as the redevelopment has other projects attached such as the football stadium and a play park both of which are not as advanced as the track.

“We are not sure at this stage if the project can be handed back in phases.”

The original track was closed last November with the new circuit being built on the Showgrounds section of the main site.

Drumbo Park, which operates under the control of the Irish Coursing Club, remains the only option for racegoers in Northern Ireland.
