Face The Blade clocked the fastest time of the night – albeit on the fastest of the going – in the final qualifying session. His 28.18 was seven spots down on Jaytee Spartacus’s run on Thursday.
Given the variances of the going, the 28.18 run by Roxholme Barkely, and the narrow defeat of Making Paper were also noteworthy performances. Three favourites were eliminated including Paradise Maverik in an eventual last heat with also saw the elimination of Scottish Derby winner Hot Pipe with winner Ballymac Franco letting himself down for the second time in his career.
