Two more dates for British Bred competitions, including one brand new event, were confirmed last week by the BGBF (British Greyhound Breeder’s Forum) as part of the Forum’s planned series of events for British Bred greyhounds to be held throughout the year. The first was the Puppy Cup held ten days ago at Sheffield.
Next month, May, will see the brand new BGBF Scurry, to be run over the 428m trip at Henlow. It is advertised for 24 (British Bred) greyhounds and 6 reserves, with entries closing at 1pm on Wednesday 1st May.
The first round will be staged on Sunday 5th May, semi finals Sunday 12th May and the Final on Sunday 19th May.
The winner of the final will receive £4000 + trophy & presentation jacket, runner up £600, and other finalists £300 each. The breeder of the winning greyhound will receive £250, with the breeder of other finalists £100 each.
The following month will see the BGBF St Leger, held at Central Park and run over the six bend trip of 642m. This will be a two round competition, advertised for 18 greyhounds and 4 reserves.
Entries close at noon on Wednesday 29th May with the first round to be staged on Sunday 2nd June and the final on Sunday 9th June.
The winner of the final will receive £4,000 +trophy & presentation jacket, runner up £600 and other finalists £300 each. The breeder of the winning greyhound will receive £250, with the breeder of other finalists £100 each.
Further events throughout the year are in the pipeline, and will be announced as soon as definite dates and conditions are known. The BGBF Committee, which itself underwent a few changes last week at its EGM, is aware that there have been concerns raised that the more Northern breeders are not as well catered for, and putting this right is going to be a priority moving forward.
New chair Liz Mort said: ‘We as a Committee will be working tirelessly to ensure that all members of our British Bred community will be given a fair chance at competing in our events. The aim would be to have a BGBF competition at every track in the country – that might take time, but we will not lose sight of the goal!’
