Reader Pete Walker has sent through an example of a new ratings system that he has devised featuring the semi finals of the Coral Coronation Cup. We think you might find it of interest.

CORAL CORONATION CUP AT ROMFORD

Ratings and Analysis by Pete Walker

The first major competition final in 2017 is the category two Coronation Cup over the six-bend 575m trip at Romford sponsored by Corals. Last year’s winner Millwards Master and most of the other fancied runners safely negotiated the heats except Willy Whitesocks who was eliminated at that stage. I have compiled comparable ratings with the top three from each race specified below as well as the overall top four of the semi-final protagonists.

1st Semi-Final

T3 (R) – Roswell Romanov (194)

T5 (M) – Office Flirt (176)

T2 (R) – Rubys Razzle (156)

2nd Semi-Final

T2 (R) – Spa Road Piper (142)

T4 (M) – Bubbly Torpedo (137+)

T6 (R) – Oakfield Caesar (137)

3rd Semi-Final

T6 (W) – Boylesports Duke (186)

T5 (W) – Murrys Act (139)

T2 (R) – Shaneboy Freddie (116)

Top 4

(194): Roswell Romanov 2/1

(186): Boylesports Duke 4/1

(176): Office Flirt 20/1

(156): Rubys Razzle 16/1

Ratings with a maximum of 200 are based on all recent performances at the track and over the same distance. Top-rated Roswell Romanov can still be backed at 2/1 and is on a recovery mission after chasing home Bubbly Torpedo in the recent Essex Vase and lock horns again. The inexperienced Boylesports Duke (4/1) was very impressive in his first run at the track and looks a potential star in the making for Ricky Holloway. He also appears to have drawn a slightly easier race to qualify from and is capable of a top three finish in the finale. Of the others at the odds available, Office Flirt (20/1) is capable of building on his heat winning performance in what appears the toughest of the three semi-finals. However, she is rarely out of the first two so each way support could pay dividends although qualification cannot be guaranteed in a highly competitive renewal of this event. The final is live on Sky Sports on Wednesday 11th January so good luck in whatever you decide.
