Ballymac Brogan, a 59-1 chance with the sponsors for the William Hill Greyhound Derby, will start his serious preparations for the competition with the boost of having been named the winner of the GBGB-sponsored trophy for the Greyhound Writers’ Association’s Greyhound of the Month for March.

Owned by Steve Jones, Dave Lawrence, Matt Sharp and Damian Teevan and trained by Seamus Cahill, the son of the 2013 classic winner Ballymac Vic earned the majority of the panel’s votes for his victory in the Racing Post Juvenile at Wimbledon where he held off the challenge of Newinn Yolo by a short head.

The news was greeted enthusiastically by Cahill, who commented: “Winning the Juvenile and then getting this award is a nice start to the year for us and I know that the owners will be as pleased as I am. The Derby is our focus and I am considering running him in the Derby Trial Stakes at Towcester on May 9.”
