Greyhound ambassadors Gail May, Kim Sanzone, Carly Philpott, Lorraine Sams, Mel Solcombe and ss raised £4,312.94 towards homing charities during the 2021 Star Sports/TRC Events & Leisure Greyhound Derby – almost by accident.

Gail said: “We were originally planning just a couple of ‘meet and greets’ to allow the public to interact with the older dogs and to introduce them to Pablo The Pup.

“But on the first night, Mark Pierrepont saw us and handed over £20 and we didn’t know what to do with it. So we decided that we might as well raise some money for a good cause and it all went from there.

“There are so many people to thank starting with Nathan (Corden) and Kevin (Boothby). We never expected to be given the freedom to wonder around the place, particularly on final night. It was lovely to see trainer Fergal O’Brien (@FOBRacing) and jockey Oisin Murphy (@oismurphy) offering their support while ‘The Iceman’ and fellow Ambassador Gerwyn Price (@Gezzyprice)  got to meet Pablo (@Pablothepup1).

“Seriously, it was a huge success and we have to thank all those patrons who donated so generously. The money will all go to worthy causes and will be split between the Crossing Cottage Greyhound Sanctuary, the Whittingham Kennels and Lincolnshire Greyhound Trust. We hope to have a formal handing over of cheques in the next few weeks.”
