The withdrawal of Romeo Treaty means that there will be 89 railers among the 154 entries (subject to change) going to Sunday’s draw for the first round of the Star Sports English Greyhound Derby.

The plan is to stage 27 first round heats. Of those, there will be 15 heats with the first four to qualify, plus 12 heats (currently 8 for five runners and 4 for six runners) where the first three will qualify.

Racing manager Chris Page said: “There are a few seeding changes still to be confirmed, mainly Irish runners who have had one look at the track, including some who are due to trial again on Saturday. It would be nice to have some more middles and wides, but at least all the railers are gruaranteed to be drawn no wider than trap four”

The track have also made clear that the two Ricky Holloway trained dogs seemingly drafted into the event after the draw had closed, amid “confusion” had been confirmed with entry forms and cheques prior to the deadline. The racing office were then told to withdraw the dogs, Razldazl Raidio and Lenson Wilson, before being asked that both be re-instated, which was then done, with permission of the GBGB senior steward.

The draw will get underway, sometime after Noon on Sunday and will be broadcast live on Towcester TV
